My Reasons For Going Vegetarian
My religion does not teach vegetarianism, it is a hugely personal choice. There are climates and countries where it would be impossible to eat far outside the norm. But here in the U.S., we have many freedoms and choosing what constitutes your own healthy diet is one of the freedoms.
The foundation principle, for me, is to be peaceful, so as much as I’d love to be obnoxious with people, I try hard not to be when they make thoughtfless remarks such as, “But God COMMANDED us to eat meat”, and “It’s evil not to eat meat”.
1. To avoid furthering cruelty to animals.
2. To avoid the chemicals, pesticides, and contaminants that you ingest in large mammals, especially the hormones they give to cows to keep them producing milk.
3. To more fully live my religion, which says to “eat meat sparingly and [then] only in times of winter and famine”.
Benefits I noticed AFTER I became a vegetarian:
1. I can eat whatever I want, you lose a lot of calories by not adding the meat dish.
2. It sure saves on my budget!
3. I feel like a gourmet. Eating vegetarian goes far beyond eating beans and salads. I eat Thai, Ethiopian, Indian, and Mexican regularly. I make “main dish” salads for pot lucks that are to die for.
